Frequently Asked Questions

I need help with the Odyssey Translator app. Who should I contact?

Email us by writing to support [at] odysseytranslator [dot] com or by filling out the form on the Contact Us page. You can also tweet us @translatorapps.

Tip: “Why is the sound in the app not playing?” is one of the most common support questions we receive. To troubleshoot this issue, please check the side of your iPhone or iPod touch to make sure the device is not in vibrate mode. The vibrate switch not only prevents the phone from ringing but also turns off the sound in some apps. Read more here.

Do I need internet access to use the app?

Our apps work without the internet, so you can use them anywhere you travel.

I want to see a demo video of the app. Where can I watch one?

A demo video of the English to French phrasebook is on YouTube.

Tip: There are also free versions of each of our apps. Get a free version on the App Store to experiment with the app on your iPhone or iPod touch.

What’s in the free version?

The free version is the same as the paid version, except that there is a limited number of travel categories. There are 26 travel categories in the free version: Greetings, Gratitude, Introductions, Favors, Seasonings, Water, Bars & Clubs, Tourist Attractions, Discounts, Parking, Time & Distance, Wake Up Call, Sizes & Care, Beauty Salon, Refund, Bicycles & Scooters, Terminals, 0-10, Percent, Months, Cuts & Wounds, Blood Type, Help, Forms, Roman Alphabet, and Colors.

What’s in the paid version?

In the paid version there are translations for nearly 200 travel categories. If you downloaded the free version, you can upgrade to the paid version by downloading the Complete Phrasebook for $4.99 via in-app purchase. You can also download the paid version separately from the free version on the App Store for $4.99.

What languages are available?

French, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Italian, German, Dutch, Russian, Mandarin Chinese and Korean.

Tip: If there is a language you want that is not listed, please share with us on the Contact Us page.

Does the app work on my iPhone, iPad, etc?

Odyssey Translator works on iPhone and iPod touch. By default, all iPhone apps work on iPad, but we plan to release an app specifically designed for the iPad in 2016.

Tip: If you want Odyssey Translator to be available on Android, please share your thoughts with us on the Contact Us page.

Why do some of the reviews on the In the Press page refer to you as Oxford Translator instead of Odyssey Translator?

We changed our app name in 2010. Reviews written before or during 2010 refer to us as Oxford Translator.

Where can I download the app?

You can download Odyssey Translator on the App Store.
